Abstract
Piston, Pen & Press was a three-year AHRC-funded project which aimed to understand how industrial workers in Scotland and the North of England, from the 1840s to the 1910s, engaged with literary culture through writing, reading, and participation in wider cultural activities.
The database, which is also accessible online, was launched in 2022 and made available on the Digital Humanities Data Service in 2023 in the following formats:
- The complete database presented in MySQL, CSV and JSON formats.
- 23 images of peopled referenced in Piston, Pen & Press.
- 19 videos plus thumbnail images and 35 audio recordings of readings of literary works from Piston, Pen & Press.
