Sound and Music
Actions
The museum’s collections relating to sound and music date back at least 150 years. Sonic objects used regularly to be demonstrated in our galleries. Because so many visitors have deep personal interests in the area, sound and music make a great focus for museum research activity. Since the Museum’s performances of Brian Eno’s Apollo music in 2009, we have had a developing programme of activity linking research projects and events to publications and concerts. Each of these components has enabled us to explore a cluster of research questions relating to the ways in which people think about the technology of music; about the role of sound in museums; and the kinds of sonic and musical objects the museum should collect and display. This collection houses our projects relating to the theme of sound and music.
Despite the museum’s best efforts, we are unable to make the PDF documents found within these collections fully screen reader accessible.
