Abstract
This leaflet was handed out during the second workshop titled 'Noise and Silence', held at Nottingham University from 26 to 27 March 2015. It explored the sonic cultural context of industrial modernity which made noise an issue before, during and after the interwar period, and which saw the Science Museum hosting the noise abatement exhibition in 1935. The workshop asked when and how the noise of modernity became a significant issue; the circumstances under which science made noise a subject of scientific research and the broader relationship of the work on noise to the development of the science of acoustics.
