Abstract
The ethics of museum patronage is a complex area of applied ethics. This is due to the discourse being heavily shaped by contextual factors, such as the climate crisis, which are constantly changing. This means that it is difficult to provide a prescriptive set of ethical guidelines for museums, as what this consists of is not absolute. Hence, this report provides a summative account of the ethical dilemmas surrounding museum patronage and their philosophical grounds, rather than presenting prescriptive guidelines. This report was produced as part of a collaboration between the University of Leeds and the MaILHoC project in 2024. For this, MA students working on Global Ethics offered their insights into the work of the project on the ethics of patronage in a museum context.
