Abstract
Science City 1550–1800: The Linbury Gallery, which opened in 2019, explores the science of early modern London, showcasing the scientific instrument collections of the Science Museum, Kings College London and the Royal Society. In each of the gallery’s four sections, an abstracted room-set-style display evokes places in London that contributed to London’s scientific culture. Each display is accompanied by a digital label that interprets the objects and other features. This is a working draft of the text for the display that evokes a meeting of the Royal Society in the late 1600s, at which Fellows are conducting an experiment with an air pump.
