Unlocking Lovelock: Scientist, Inventor, Maverick

Unlocking Lovelock: Scientist, Inventor, Maverick was an exhibition on display at the Science Museum, London, from 2013 to 2015. It was funded as part of the Climate Changing Programme with thanks to Shell and Siemens.
Lovelock is most famous for formulating the Gaia hypothesis – the idea that Earth is a self-regulating system. This theory has been both hugely influential and controversial. The exhibition gave a unique insight into Lovelock’s creative mind, personality and unconventional ideas. Revealing items from his personal archive, the exhibition explored Lovelock’s unconventional career path and the development of his ideas in scientific fields as diverse as medicine, environmental science, atmospheric chemistry and space exploration.     One of six short films that featured in an information kiosk exhibit entitled 'Meet James Lovelock'. The films captured Lovelock's responses to a series of questions about his life and career. The exhibit featured within the 2014 Science Museum exhibition Unlocking Lovelock: Scientist, Inventor, Maverick. This exhibition displayed, for the first time, items from the archive of James Lovelock, which had been acquired by the Science Museum in 2012. The exhibition was part of the Climate Changing Programme, a 5 year programme of events, temporary exhibitions and installations conceived to run alongside the museum's Atmosphere: Exploring Climate Science gallery, which opened in December 2010.
