The project took the opportunity of the display of its project films at the Discovery Museum, Newcastle, in February 2024 to conduct an engagement event with the kinds of people who might be expected to benefit from linkage of digital heritage records. We employed Bluegrass Research, a market research agency specialising in heritage and based in Newcastle, to organise this event on our behalf. Heritage work/research means different things to different people. This piece of audience research represents a wide range of areas, and a variety of skills, expertise and research methods. The invited audience shared a deep passion for what they do. Some are working to contribute to academia and broaden understanding of local history, whilst others are following their own personal interests, through the collecting of objects or the creation of family trees, for example. Some are volunteering their time to help with heritage projects at their affiliated organisation. This report looks into audience insights and understanding of the aims of the Congruence Engine project under the stimulus of one of its important outputs - the first exhibit.
